Two roommates walk into a bar...
Dylan Sunjic
When his grandfather showed him how to move the pieces at the age of five, Dylan knew that chess was going to be his game. His passion and curiosity led him to become a four-time Florida junior state champion and a two-time Nationals runner-up for his age group. During his time at the University of Chicago, he has been a traveling member of a collegiate chess team that has cemented their standing as a top-10 team in the country. However, throughout his entire experience playing chess, he struggled to find a fun space to socialize and enjoy the game with other players of different skill levels. Realizing he was not alone, he set on a journey with his roommate Ross to fix this problem.
Ross Shapiro
Although not the most skilled player (he retired from professional chess at the tender age of 6), Ross always had an interest in the game. This interest peaked when he met Dylan, his roommate-to-be, as a freshman at the University of Chicago. Having produced all sorts of events, from ‘Night of Ideas’, a recurring speaker series where students give talks about any idea they’re passionate about, to comedy in strange places for the New York-based ‘Underground Overground Comedy’, Ross turned his attention to founding Chess Night—a place for people like him to enjoy the game they love.
